When you get your first set of aligners, it may take you a while to get used to wearing them. You’ll take them out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth, but you’ll wear them the rest of the time (even while sleeping). It may also take some time to get used to how they feel in your mouth while you talk, but you will probably get used to this quickly. When you switch to a new aligner after a week or two, your teeth may feel a little bit of pressure for a few days. The biggest advantage is that you don’t have to put wires and brackets in your mouth like you do with metal braces. When you’ve gone through all the aligners, you’ll need to wear a retainer, just like when you had metal braces, to keep all the changes. In this case, though, the retainer will be almost as hard to see as the aligners.
The answer to this question depends on how much your teeth need to move to get to their best positions. In some situations, it may only take a few months. In cases that are very severe, treatment could take up to 18 months. Most of the time, it takes between nine and fifteen months.
